Business Central Interface Version 2.0.0.70

You use Handyman to create new site and equipment? Then this release of the Handyman Field Service Management Extension for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central offers you interesting new functionality to simplify order management and service management.

Create new service items for equipment created in Handyman

  • In many situations it makes sense to create new equipment in Handyman, e.g.
    • Handyman is used to manage the technical details of the installed base whereas BC focuses on the economical side.
    • Mobile technicians encounter new equipment in the field that did not exist in the installed base before. Creation of the new equipment record can be done in Handyman Office or in Handyman Mobile.
    • Technical service management calls for equipment to be managed in Handyman on a more detailed level than required by the ERP.
    • At the same time BC should still have a complete set of all equipment.
  • To respond to this need, we added a new function to create new service items based on equipment created in Handyman
    • There is a new page in inbound orders / data for equipment data from Handyman.
    • Here you can import all Handyman equipment into a buffer table.
    • A separate action allows you to create new service items for all entries imported. If the Handyman Equipment Number is not matching an existing Serivce Item No., a new service item is created.
  • This feature is built on the new API framework recently. You need to configure use of Handyman API in the extension.

Full integration into the update order process

  • If a Handyman order uses an equipment that does not have a counterpart in BC, a new service item is created automatically within the update order process.
  • This applies to service orders and projects and uses the mechanism described above in an automated way.
  • The functionality can be activated via the new setting “Create service item”.

Additional improvements and corrections

  • When an order or project is exported from BC and there is still unprocessed data in the inbound order tables for this order/project then a warning is shown.
  • This is to prevent that BC is overwriting data in Handyman.
  • As a general rule we recommend to keep the inbound order tables clean and process data from Handyman right away.
